Roof damaged by a hurricane or tropical storm in Sulphur?
Request an urgent connection with an independent local roofer for tarping or emergency repair.
First steps after a hurricane or tropical storm
- Get everyone safe. Stay away from downed power lines and sagging ceilings.
- Do not climb onto a wet or damaged roof. Take photos from the ground and inside the house.
- Limit water damage inside. Move belongings and catch drips if it is safe to do so.
- Report the damage to your insurance company and read your policy. Your insurer explains your coverage and claim steps.
- Ask a local roofer about tarping or an emergency repair to stop more water getting in.

After a storm in Louisiana: what state rules say
Summary of Louisiana rules from research notes, with sources. Not legal advice.
Door-to-door and out-of-town contractors
No general hurricane exemption found. Out-of-state contractors need their own Louisiana license or registration over the same thresholds, and a joint venture with a Louisiana contractor does not cover them. LSLBC can fine unlicensed contractors and the Louisiana contractors who hire them. A 2026 bill (HB 924) would ban door-to-door solicitation for six months after a declared disaster, but a House committee deferred it and no enactment was found. Treat it as not law until confirmed.
