Checking a roofer's license or registration
Home improvement registration with LSLBC covers residential improvement work over $7,500 and up to $75,000. Above $75,000 needs a Residential Building license. New Residential Roofing classification (Act 422 of 2025, R.S. 37:2156.4): from Jan 1, 2026, anyone who advertises, solicits, bids, quotes or performs residential roofing work of $7,500 or more must hold Residential Roofing or Residential Construction. Act 757 of 2026 restated this from Aug 1, 2026 and covers buildings with up to four units. Act 757 and Act 481 of 2026 raised liability insurance to $500,000 for residential classifications and home improvement registrants from Aug 1, 2026. Contractors must also pull permits and get inspections (Act 422 makes skipping them a violation).
